“Look, even if I don’t get one directly, eventually they’re just going to have to give me one when I get old. So no matter how you slice it, I’m getting one.”

    - Robert Downey Jr.’s reaction about potentially getting an Oscar to GQ Magazine.

Captain America: The First AvengerSPOILERS AHEADI had very high hopes for this film. It was one of my most anticipated going into this summer. If 25% of those hopes were fulfilled I’d be shocked. I was not a huge fan at all. First off the script sans a few good one liners was pretty bad. The acting at times (Minus Evans and Tommy Lee Jones) was hilariously bad. I laughed out loud at parts that were meant to be serious. There was none to little back story on anything in the film. There were no lead ups or anything as well. It felt like it was jumping around left and right like a damned bouncy ball. Times that the film could of shined it failed. The relationship between Steve Rodgers and Dr. Erskine at first reminded me a lot of the one Stark and Yinsen. They killed off Erskine way too soon and there was virtually no mention or anything afterwards of him. Given the circumstances of the ending it was a real pointless side love story. I was expecting a lot more action too. The action we received was adequate but I wanted more. I felt like the final battle/action sequence was way too short and just didn’t have enough hype built into it.Chris Evans was good in his role as Steve Rodgers aka Captain America. Probably the strongest acting point in the film. Second being Tommy Lee Jones as Colonel Phillips. Besides them the acting was mediocre. About the same level as Thor had sans a few people.I did like the atmosphere and the presentation of the 1940’s in the film. It sounds weird saying it but it felt like a very modern version of the 1940’s but didn’t over do itself. Very vibrant colors, building structures, etc. Overall I just was very disappointed with what this film was. Best part was sadly the Avengers trailer after the credits.5/10
