    just watched: Hugo

    Hugo

One of the more charming films to come out in 2011. Such a beautifully told story both visually and verbally. I would’ve laughed in your face if you told me Scorsese was capable of producing such a thoughtful and deep children’s film. Certainly one of the most well acted films of 2011. Ben Kingsley was robbed of an Oscar nomination, he stole the show. Such a lovely film that portrays the early days of cinema so vividly. I came close to tearing up a few times. The whole film is about making connections with other human beings and what you do with those connections you make. Really enjoyed it.

Bernard Herrmann - Taxi Driver (theme)

I’ve had this in my head for years and years and years even since before I saw the movie it’s just so iconic. The score is just one of the many perfections of this fucking perfect movie.

Director Martin Scorsese claims that the most important shot in the movie is when Bickle is on the phone trying to get another date with Betsy. The camera moves to the side slowly and pans down the long, empty hallway next to Bickle, as if to suggest that the phone conversation is too painful and pathetic to bear.
