Watched: The Impossible

The Impossible

The tsunami scene was heart wrenching and definitely one of the best scenes of 2012. The film is really heart felt at times. It’s a good outlook on just how resilient the human heart can be at times. I almost cried a few times during the film, especially one scene in particular with Ewan McGregor breaking down on the phone with a relative of his. Standout for me was child actor Tom Holland, as he was practically the lead role. Definitely worth the watch.

My thoughts on the Oscar nominations

• Disappointed that “Drive” didn’t get nominated for Best Picture/Support Actor
• Disappointed that “Terri” didn’t get nominated for best original screenplay
• Happy that “Margin Call” got nominated for best original screenplay
• Really happy that “Midnight in Paris got nominated for Best Picture as well as several other categories
• EXTREMELY happy for Jonah Hill’s nomination for “Moneyball”. Dude put in a lot of work and it worked.
• Happy Melissa McCarthy got nominated for a comedic role. She is the first actor to be nominated for one since Kevin Kline was for “A Fish Called Wanda” back in ‘89
• Disappointed that George Clooney didn’t get nominated for Best Director
• Disappointed that Ryan Gosling’s incredible year wasn’t recognized for any of the work he did in 2011
• Could care less that “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” and “War Horse” got Best Picture nominations. I will see them only because of my commitment to watch all nominated films
• Happy the Academy picked a surprise nomination of Demian Bichir for Best Actor in “A Better Life” I’ll definitely have to check that out.
• Actually somewhat not dreading “The Help” as much as I thought I would. Read up about it and didn’t know Viola Davis is from Rhode Island where I’m from. Makes me interested in seeing it.
• Not shocked that Fincher didn’t get nominated for Best Director. Didn’t think he would. Am happy though that Rooney Mara got the nod for Best Actress
• I’m so ready for “The Artist” to run train at these Oscars
